This is how I remember my mother
Seated on a stool made of wood
By the fire that wouldn't burn
I see her mouth blow air nonstop
Rekindling the fire with great skill
I see her hand reshuffling the wood
With an incomprehensible expertise
I see her wipe sweat off her face
With her just washed wrapper
Tied smartly around her bossom
I see her work frantically
To Put the leaves together
And Add seasoning to taste
I see her in that little kictchen
She made by herself for herself
Sweating the toxics out by the fire
Just to put food on the table
Of her husband and children

Step by step
Step by step
As I walk this lane
With faith sometimes  wavering
And hope sometimes dwindling
Sometimes with hands up in the air
Ready to give up
And The next minute ears in rapt attention as my mouth whispers into them the sweet words of hope


Step by Step
As I walk this lane
I place my hand on my chest
In constant reassurance
Daily reassuring myself of the fact that ALL IS WELL.
I tell myself baby you can do this
I tell myself baby you got this
I tell myself baby you'll make it
I tell myself sweetheart, it'll get better.

Step by step
As I walk this lane
With my head held up and dignity intact
I sing to myself songs of victory
And read to myself poems of self love
With my heart ready to embrace the days of gold to come...

Step by step
As I walk this lane
I remember to keep pushing  hard
Take one day at a time
Take one step  before the other
And never forgetting to tell myself
 'baby it's just a matter  of time, you'll eventually get there'

Forgive Me Pastor


I was a petty soul until you broke me-
And lit the fire of love forever in my soul
Oh I was livid-mad, I admit
When you stabbed my hope
And laughed to scorn as I picked
The shattered rubbles of my heart
I cursed, cried, was confused
Forgive me Pastor, I wronged you
How could I not see you for you; human
How could I expect from you what I couldn't be myself; perfect
How could I be mad at you for being yourself; man 

Thank you Pastor, I'll always be glad
That you tore me up- and I healed again
Though I purchased the healing with monsoonic tears
And lengthy nights of remorseful thoughts
But I healed again is all that matters
My heart is back to pumping blood-
Still unsure how I survived when it didn't;
Oh for a long time it carried you
It was stressed and over-pressed
It's such a bliss to let you go
It's such a glorious thing, forgiveness is
I was a petty soul until you broke me-
And lit the fire of love forever in my soul
I was a puerile man until you bit me hard
And numbed every cell in me that beats for hate

I actually don't know the right words to use for him. He's just too amazing.

Words fail me
To describe an indescribable father
A man of few words‎
A father like no other
Dreams come, dreams go‎
Words fail, cares waver‎
Promises fail, love has waxes cold‎
But My father, has always been a father

Amazingly calm
Like the word 'calm' itself
Even in the face of dangerous danger
His middle name should be 'calm'.lol‎

He scolds me to the right path
When I'm right,He cheers me greatly‎
He's My No 1 cheerleader
He's an amazing father
He's a loving husband

My Journey - Self Discovery.

I spoke as a child

I understood as a child
But when I became a man
I put away childish things

Now i see myself through a mirror,
Darkly, but face to face.
Now I know myself in part
'cause the time of perfection
Is yet to come

But,
when that which is perfect is come
Then that which is in part
Shall be done away
And then shall I know myself 
Even as I am known by HIM

LAGOS CITY

I got a request by one of my esteemed followers to write a poem about Lagos State. So I decided to share this.
The poem below was sent to my box last month. When I read it, I laughed. You know why? You'll see the reason when you  see what he wrote about Lagos. There's a particular line in the poem that amused me..let me know when you see it. *winks.
 And NO, He doesn't live in Lagos. Lol



When the day was young

In pictures I met you
Houses stood so tall
As if they could talk.
People littered you
Like the procession 
of soldier ants after rain.
You are like the Rain
You smile, you frown.
Your breeze invites
At noon and dawn
In you talents thrive
Warm welcome I foresee
Lagos; acclaimed wisdom city.

NIGERIA - FROM DESPAIR TO HOPE


I walked along and then I saw
A pasture so green it blew my mind
A people so strong I checked myself
Where is this place, I asked my escort
"Nigeria, the land of wealth" he said
"A land filled with so much gold
Where oil flows unend like a river
And the owners beg the stealers a share of oil

A new Nigeria i really foresee
Above and beyond she surely shall be
The common people soon will have a say
In the way their nation is run
That fertile land you see
Will be utilised to make ends meet
Those strong people you see
Will be tired of playing by the rules
Of their 'supposed' leaders' games

Nigeria, oh Nigeria
Shine thine light and scare the dark
Rise above and far beyond
Give thine Children a little bit more hope
Be the dream and live the dream
Prepare the land for a flood soon shall come
To wash away all negativity and negativists
The rain soon shall fall
To water your already dried soil
And the sun soon shall arise
To lighten up your beautiful world"

I Found Him

I found Him dad, I found God.
I wanted to know why
Why you prayed so much
You were better off
You didn't lack a thing

At every given time
You were a busy bee
yet you still found the time

Don't story books get boring?
After the second, third time you read?

Then I encountered Him
The one you couldn't stop talking to
He's so gentle and loving
beautiful and irresistable
Each time you opened that book
Your heart comes alive, right?

Nobody can love me the way he does

Now I can't stray away from his presence too

LIVE SIMPLY

Someone who I like to refer to as 'my mentor' sent this beautiful piece written by Ben Carson to me few days ago.  I hope you like it as much as I do.
The life I live, I simply  live for Him.
Sometimes you are unsatisfied with your life, while many people in this world are dreaming of living your life.
A child on a farm sees a plane fly overhead and dreams of flying. 
But, a pilot on the plane sees the farmhouse and dreams of returning home.
That's life!! Enjoy yours.

If wealth is the secret to happiness, then the rich should be dancing on the streets. 
But only poor kids do that.
If power ensures security, then officials should walk unguarded.
But those who live simply, sleep soundly.
If beauty and fame bring ideal relationships, then celebrities should have the best marriages.
But those who live simply, walk humbly and love genuinely!
All good will come back to you!!!

His head hung in deep thought
His heart in deep pain
He thought he had lost her

Head still hung in thought
What happened next shocked him
He saw her straight legs first
His head jerked up
His eyes locked with hers
He noticed her beautiful brown eyes
He couldn't believe it
She was right there
Right in front of him

He didnt know what to do
He was confused
Adrenaline pumping
His eyes were fixed on hers
Her eyes were fixed on his
He has been waiting for this moment
He was ready
Ready to capture the moment....any moment

He thought he was dreaming
He thought he was imagining 
Until he saw the smile
That slowly formed on her lips
And then she said 'hi'
The butterflies came alive
Snapping him out of his dreamland

Somehow without saying a word
She said 'peace be still'
His silence spoke a lot
Her eyes spoke volumes
He connected with her
She agreed with him
Fate smiled on them
Heaven sealed the deal
Here they are at the altar
This sacred spot where they met
With that promise of forever
They've been lovebound
Since the first day they met
And they'll be lovebound
Till the day they die

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

While we wait for the part 2 of my legendary(lol) poem - LOVEBOUND. I decided to take us back to nursery school.  How I wish I can bring my BBM smileys here..so much feelings I want to convey but  can't..lol. I like to bring out the child in me once in a while, and tonight is one of those nights.  I'm ready to recite this poem out loud,  Join me, let's recite together *smiles*. And as for those of us who don't know the other part of the poem, here's a chance to.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,
When there's nothing he shines upon,
Then you show your little light,

Lovebound - part 1

He was seated right here on this spot
Same City, same hour, six months ago
How could he ever forget
The first day he set his eyes on her
Heart beating intermittently
Palms perspiring so hard
He stopped what he was doing for a moment
Swimming in the aura of her
Then she started walking towards him
Cat walking with the poise of a dancer
So elegantly dressed, so innocently faced
He thought she was coming to meet him
He thought he was going to die
Then the moment got injured
He said HI, she didn't respond
She walked past him
Breaking his heart momentarily

And then just like a dream
She walked back to his side
The exact same way she did earlier
This time his heart didn't skip that beat
This time his hands didn't perspire
This time his brain wasn't blank
Neither was his mind searching for the right words
He didn't bother to say 'HI'
'Cause he knew she would not look his way
Then she started walking by
Just like she did before...

Tribute - Tears in my eyes.

When I got and read this tribute my heart bled. She was a fresh graduate of UNILORIN..a former linguist. A beautiful young lady whose future got cut short. I didn't know you, but rest in peace.
Now that you are gone
I still see your face often 
I hear your voice clearly in the wind
I remember the days we have walked this path Four years of scurrying for classes(lectures) burning the midnight candles 
Forcefully shoving into your head Semantics, Syntax, Phonology en Phonetics
And all the  the subjects you had difficulty comprehending
Humbly accepting some things life gave you
At the same time fighting for what you wanted 
I watched you speak up when no one knew what to say or do. 
I watched you fight and struggle for B.A Linguistics.
With my eyes glued on you as we drove down to the Mortuary...
I tapped, Pinched and Hit you so Hard
I wanted you to smile at me one last time
I prayed you Cough before we got to the Mortuary 
But no way,  Destiny already had its way..
I took time to check through your body 
wondering what really got you Killed 
There was no wound, Cut or  Injury on any part of your body
But Alas! Death still took you away
This was not our last discussion.
This was not our last plan when we discussed @ the Faculty.
I told you not going this year doesn't mean we not going next year.. 
So all this years of chasing B.A  through Fufu campus en route Unilorin campus was just a mere shadow chasing. 
I pray God forgive you and give you  eternal rest.. The basic fight is to live 
but death almost always wins that battle. 
Our faces are still stamped with confusion and questions...
How do you see someone today 
And the next day they are gone?
So many unanswered questions
So many incomprehensible scenarios
 JUST. LIKE. THAT! Bukola, you left too soon.
Rest in peace Bukola Remilekun Odumosu.. We love you but God loves you more..

COMPASSION - Note to my Unborn Child

I hope you will be seduced by the enchantment of learning
And bedazzled by the alluring possibilities trapped in its bosom
Education will teach you many isms:
Economics; how to gather resources to meet your needs
Entrepreneurship; how to multiply wealth and court Abundance
Society too will impress certain ways upon your mind:
Doctors save lives; they are rewarded with class and comfort
Lawyers plead cases; they are treated with grandeur and respect
Engineers create edifices and bridges; civilisation needs them
So many ways to learn and how they profit you
 
Compassion isn’t a job, you may not be taught;
It is not a class, comfort or respectable thing, it hardly profits you
But Child, take from learning its greatest lesson:
Its luxury; the ability to choose
Its elixir; the power of reason
Choose not the ways which add mere things to your state,
Or those caustic red-herrings about Happiness’ true home
Use the charm of reason to find for yourself that life’s true essence
Cannot consist only in things, or temporal states alone
 
Know, child, that compassion is a hard and lonely path
For ‘me’ and ‘I’ are the natural uses of man
But reason, good reason should prompt you to the higher life;
Where you give, give and give again
And expect neither profit nor material gain
No other joy compares, not even close
To when you lighten a needy face with a selfless deed
Child, it is true what they say; you haven’t lived a day
Until you lend a hand to a soul who can never repay
Child, compassion isn’t ‘profitable’, you might never be taught
But I hope it remains your path, even if everyone deems it difficult

Who doesn't deserve love

POWER CORRUPTS - ABAYOMI OJO

 Agbede was a boy of few words 
English was one of his disabilities 
He came humbly to enlist my help;
To compose verses of love to his long time crush 
I was in till he broached her name, Jadesola;
The 'naughty girl' who never regarded me as the class captain 
It was time to clip her wings 
In the note I committed all kinds of felonies in Agbede's name 
Happily he ran off to give his 'thoughts of love' towards her 
I paced eagerly around her desk 
To be sure my lightning struck dangerously well 
Soon there was a hoard of wailers around our queen. 
The wailers wailed more than the bereaved 
And counselled her to seek redress for the injury received 
Soon the mighty Mr Majek strolled in 
And called forth my visibly shaken friend
I couldn't look into his sorry eyes as he rode quietly to the slaughter slab
I felt so little and sad but my remorse was a little too late 
Agbede was beaten blue, grey and black 
Till my name dropped from his swollen eyes-
I was beaten blue, grey and black 
Not just by the canes of Mr Majek
But also the occasional gazes Agbede cast at me 
He stopped talking to me. 
I thought it ended there. 
Agbede was the son of the village blacksmith, 
From the lineage of the masqueraders 
Masquerades were the death of me
Agbede lurked beneath vengeance for many months 
Till the season of the masquerade finally dawned 
Alone on a tiny path, I finally met my death 
Agbede beat me blue, grey and black 
And I was powerless against the stings of his whips 
The pen is not mightier than the sword, 
Not even mightier than the whips from my estranged friend. 
I was corrupted by the power of the pen 
Agbede was corrupted by the power of the cane 
We were both guilty of the power of corruption 
I was guiltier for drawing the first blood.

Each night I see twinkling stars in the sky
My mind races back to that walk down the aisle
